Shopping for new perfume can be an overwhelming task with so much variety of fragrances available in the market. Along with the variety of scents available different concentrations of fragrances also prevail. Simply a fragrance concentration refers to to the strength of fragrance present in the perfume. Perfumes having high fragrance concentration is said to have more perfume oils and less alcohol. On the other hand, those perfumes with less fragrance concentration are having more alcohol and fewer perfume oils.

 

In this article, we are going to discuss the concentrations of fragrance in the perfume that are broken into various categories including, Eau de parum, parfum, eau de cologne, eau de toilette, and Eau Fraiche.

Parfum

A perfume which is also known as pure perfume or Extrait de parfum having the highest concentration of fragrance, its fragrance concentration ranges from 15 % to 40% in most of the perfumes. Among all types of perfume, Parfum has the most staying power its longevity exists between 6 to 8 hours. High fragrance concentration also costs the highest price CE among all the other types of perfumes.

 

If you are having sensitive skin then this category of perfume will be best suited for you as it has far less concentration of alcohol than other types of fragrances and therefore, it is capable to maintain moisture in your skin and doesn't dry out your skin.

Eau De parfum

Eau De Parfum has also the next highest concentration of fragrances after Parfum. Its fragrance concentration ranges from 15 % to 20% in most of the perfumes. This category of perfume is also having good staying power of about 4 to 5 hours. As compared to parfum, Eau De Parfum is comparatively less expensive because it does have a little higher concentration of alcohol. Though this category of perfume is also suitable for sensitive skin and most likely kind of perfume as it is suitable for everyday wear.

Eau De Toilette

Eau De Toilette has less concentration of fragrance that ranges from 5 % to 15%. This kind of perfume is comparatively cheaper than Eau De Parfum. Though Eau De Toilette is one of the most popular types of fragrance available in the market. The staying power of this kind of perfume is not so good as it is capable to give a good Aroma for about 2 to 3 hours maximum. Eau De Parfum generally prefers to wear at night while Eau De Toilette generally where day time because of its mild fragrance. The term Eau De Toilette is taken from the French term "faire sa toilette" which means to get ready.

Eau de Cologne

As compared to the above-discussed perfume this perfume is having a much lesser concentration of fragrances. Eau de Cologne has a higher concentration of alcohol and generally has a lower percentage concentration of fragrances which is about 2% to 4% only. This type of perfume is generally preferred by men. It is much less costly than other types of fragrances and the Saint only lasts up to two hours only. This kind of perfume is having less concentration of fragrance so they generally come in bigger bottles as to get the perfect Aroma, more fragrance needs to be used. Originally under Eau de Cologne traditional recipes like citrus and herbs have been used while playing with its notes with base notes.

Eau Fraiche

In one way Eau de Cologne similar to Eau Fraiche in that the scent under this category of perfume will generally last for up to 2 hours only. This perfume has given a much lower concentration of fragrances than the above-mentioned perfumes which is all about 1% to 3% only it does not contain a much high amount of alcohol that makes it wearable to sensitive people also.
